About Lerida Dried Figs

Lerida dried figs are the top commercial grade of Turkey's Sarılop fig, the variety behind the overwhelming majority of the world's traded dried figs. Grown almost exclusively around Aydın, Germencik, İncirliova and Nazilli, the Sarılop ripens and partly dries on the tree before being sun-cured on trays, giving a soft, honey-sweet fruit with pale golden-amber flesh and the classic flattened teardrop shape.

The name Lerida is a size-and-appearance grade rather than a botanical variety: within the Sarılop crop, the largest, lightest, cleanest and best-shaped figs are classed as Lerida, followed by Protoben and smaller Pulled and Baglama grades. Buyers specify grade by count per kilogram and by colour, so one harvest is fractionated into several export lines.

FromTurk connects importers, wholesalers and private-label brands with verified Aydın fig packers. Each lot is naturally sun-dried with no added sugar, processed under BRC/IFS-audited conditions with metal detection and per-lot aflatoxin testing for EU compliance, and available in bulk 5–10 kg cartons or retail-ready packs under your own label.

Lerida Dried Figs — FAQ

What is the difference between Lerida and Protoben dried figs?
Both are grades of the same Sarılop fig. Lerida is the top grade — the largest, lightest and best-shaped fruit — while Protoben is the next grade down, slightly smaller and less uniform. Both are natural sun-dried whole figs.
Where do Turkish Lerida figs come from?
Almost entirely from the Büyük Menderes valley in Aydın province — chiefly Germencik, İncirliova, Nazilli and Söke — the region whose microclimate and Sarılop variety produce the world's benchmark dried fig.
Are Lerida dried figs tested for aflatoxin?
Yes. Reputable Aydın packers test every export lot for aflatoxin because figs are aflatoxin-sensitive and the EU enforces strict limits. Ask suppliers on FromTurk for lot-by-lot certificates of analysis.
What packaging is available for wholesale Lerida figs?
Common formats are 5 kg and 10 kg bulk cartons for repacking, plus retail trays and pouches from 150 g to 1 kg. Private-label retail packaging is widely offered.
